Instruments You Grow
Into, Not Out Of
We create instruments that are easy to start with, yet open enough to grow with you. This page is about why Componental exists, not what our hardware can do.
Born from Curiosity
We were lucky enough to grow up with music, so for us it became a way of understanding things. Early on we were taught to respect structure and craft, but we were also kids who were fascinated with computers and liked taking things apart. Music and technology were never separate worlds, they were both about patterns. Experimenting, playing, building and curiosity is what made all of this happen.
Electronic music became the place where those worlds met, a space for playful experimentation where rules were useful but not sacred. Over time we found ourselves slightly out of sync with parts of the industry: too many presets, too many expectations, too much polishing before play. We were not interested in rejecting it all, we wanted to build something that felt more alive and honest, where imagination, mistakes and having fun led the way.
Componental grew from that mindset. Not from a business plan first, but from a shared way of thinking: start simple, stay curious and let complexity emerge naturally. Dubby is our first expression of that. A small instrument with room to grow, simple on the surface and complex underneath. It invites you in for play, reduces friction, and leaves space for happy accidents.
We build slowly and intentionally. We question our own decisions and we care about education and learning while having fun. Every decision, from hardware design to DSP, from software workflows to community features, is guided by real musicians and curiosity. It is about creating instruments people can grow with, trust, and return to again and again.

Meet the Founders
Leo
CTO, Hardware & Programming
Leo blends the heart of a musician with the precision of a technologist. With a background as a classical pianist and a cand.polyt degree in Sound & Music Computing, he has a deep appreciation for musical detail and the technical skills to make innovative audio systems come alive. As CTO of Componental, Leo oversees the technical direction of our products, turning ambitious ideas into reliable hardware and software that push the boundaries of what music tools can do. His work ensures that each Componental device not only sounds great but feels intuitive and expressive to play with.
"I want to build instruments that feel like an extension of your hands, not a barrier between you and the sound."
Rasmus
CEO, Strategy & Community
Rasmus brings together a deep love for music, performance, and technology. With a Master's degree in Sound & Music Computing and years of experience as a producer, DJ, and educator, he's spent his career exploring how people interact with sound - both creatively and technically. Rasmus is also an Ableton Certified Trainer and founder of Rumkraft, an electronic music school that has helped thousands of musicians and producers unlock their creative potential. At Componental, he leads the vision to build tools that empower musicians, DJs, and sound designers to explore new sonic territories.
"Technology should be transparent. If you can't see how it works, you can't truly own it."
Our Team
Meet the people behind Dubby and Componental – all cute and actively engaged with music.

What We Believe
Three principles that guide every decision we make.
Creative Freedom
Creativity should feel liberating, not restricted. We remove barriers between the artist and the moment of inspiration, even when that means building slower and refusing shortcuts. We design systems that suggest possibilities, not instructions. Structure, not control.
Transparency & Trust
Sharing and co-creation are non-negotiable. Knowledge, code, and process should be visible and shared. Collaborative architecture is not a feature, it is our operating system. We listen to our community and build with them, not above them.
Playful Experimentation
Curiosity is how progress happens, and music is joy. We encourage exploration, weirdness, breaking things, rebuilding them, and discovering unexpected results. Playful on the surface, technically serious underneath.

"We envision a world where music technology is open, playful, and community-driven. Our hardware and software evolve together as one coherent and transparent system, where creativity is shared rather than owned and everyone is invited to explore, modify, and evolve their sound."Join the Movement
Our Journey from Concept to Cutting-Edge Audio Innovation
Explore the milestones that shaped Dubby.
Deliver Kickstarter Dubbys and grow our ecosystem
Deliver Dubbys and hardware expansions to all Kickstarter backers. Grow the algorithm library by 10x. Beta-test Dubby Visual Builder - the visual browser-based audio algorithm builder. Activate the community aspect of Dubby.Studio and open the marketplace for self-developed algorithms. Host a Dubby Delivery Party! Go on a retail tour to visit our selected retailers worldwide.
Hardware ecosystem completion and investor backing
Grew international user base and expanded open-platform collaboration features. Decided to add SD-Card port, dedicated headphone amp, and upgraded 9V power supply (alongside USB-C power) free of charge to all Kickstarter backers. Started the move from prototype to mass-production. Finished and refactored libDubby. Optimised PCB-layout, hardware case design and production. Growing algorithm library. Onboarded first community developers. Got backed by SoundInvest and EIFO.
Software platform launch and Kickstarter success
Introduced Dubby.Studio, libDubby, dubbyPlayground (C++ getting started environment), gentry (gen getting started environment), got 700% funded on Kickstarter. Grew Ambassador Team x 10. Got featured by DivKid and Sonic State. Hosted a packed Dubby Launch Party event at local nightclub in Copenhagen. Got the prestigious and lucrative Innofounder, Danish Startup Grant.
Modular side-panel development and integration
Improved audio and power circuits. Reduced onboard noise and total harmonic distortion. Added controls on both sides of Dubby as modular and interchangeable side-panels. Redesigned push-buttons for longevity and better tactile experience. Developed two new side-panels; sliders and footswitch controller inputs. Onboarded first artists to our Ambassador Team.
First prototypes and proof of hardware and software concepts
First prototype of Dubby created. Focused on developing a flexible, open-platform audio platform and proving the concept of an instrument-oriented design with modular software environment where users could easily move audio algorithm prototypes from Max/gen and C++ to a standalone embedded device, with a single command or click from the computer. The project was featured at the annual Sound & Music Computing Conference and got accepted to the Sound Tech Incubator and Beyond Beta development programmes. The foundation for Dubby and our core collaborators was found and made.
