5 Ways to Use Dubby in Your Live Set
Discover 5 practical ways to integrate Dubby into your live performance, from real-time effects processing to MIDI-controlled transitions.
1. Send/Return Effects on a Mixer
The classic setup. Route an aux send from your mixer into Dubby's input and bring the output back on a return channel. This lets you dial in effects on any channel in your mix without committing. Load a lush reverb algorithm, a tape delay, or something weirder - and blend to taste with the aux level.
2. Inline Effects Chain for a Synth
Patch Dubby directly between your synth output and your audio interface or amp. With the Dual Slider side panel, you get tactile control over wet/dry mix and a second parameter - perfect for real-time sound design during a set. Swap algorithms between songs for completely different textures without touching a laptop.
3. DJ Effects Processor
Run your DJ mixer's master output (or a cue channel) through Dubby for effects that no software plugin can match. The sub-2ms latency means you can use it on the master bus without timing issues. Load the Crush Hour algorithm for bitcrushed transitions, or Dubby Siren for classic dub siren effects between tracks.
4. MIDI-Synced Transitions
Dubby comes with MIDI DIN built in and supports MIDI over USB, so you can connect controllers and clock sources right out of the box. For syncing with CV-enabled hardware, add the CV Expansion panel. With global tap tempo, tempo divisions, and tempo sync (leader and follower), Dubby locks perfectly to your set's BPM - making it powerful for delay throws, synced tremolo, and rhythmic filter sweeps.
5. Experimental Noise & Feedback Instrument
Dubby can be a sound source too. Some algorithms generate audio without any input. Others can be pushed into self-oscillation and feedback for drone and noise performances. Connect the output back to the input (carefully!) for controllable feedback loops, or use the built-in noise generators for texture layering.
Building Your Live Rig
The beauty of Dubby is that it adapts to your workflow, not the other way around. Start with one of these setups, explore more audio algorithms on Dubby.Studio, and make it yours. Ready to get started? Pick up a Dubby and start experimenting.
